Abstract

Tujuan dari artikel ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan peranan kegiatan Online Citizen Science (OCS) untuk penelitian dan pengumpulan data biodiversitas Indonesia. Kegiatan Citizen Science (OCS) saat ini berkembang dengan pesat dan telah menghasilkan jutaan data observasi biodiversitas di seluruh dunia. Kegiatan CS saat ini sudah banyak dilakukan melalui kegiatan online dengan menggunakan berbagai aplikasi dan web seperti iNaturalis, eBird, Zooniverse dan lain-lain. OCS memiliki potensi yang sangat besar untuk pengumpulan data penelitian dan big data biodiversitas Indonesia mengingat saat ini Indonesia belum memiliki data biodiversitas yang memadai padahal laju loss biodiversity terus meningkat setiap tahunnya, melalui pemanfaatan OCS diharapkan akan membantu ilmuwan dalam pengumpulan data penelitian dengan lebih cepat dan hemat biaya karena melibatkan masyarakat secara luas untuk berpartisipasi. Di Indonesia sudah banyak lembaga swadaya masyarakat maupun lembaga pemerintah yang mengembangkan aplikasi dan kegiatan OCS seperti Biodiversity Warrior, Burungnesia, Burung, Ampibi Reptil Kita dan lain-lain. Platform tersebut telah memiliki ribuan anggota dan menghasilkan puluhan ribu data, sehingga berpotensi sangat besar menghasilkan big data biodiversitas Indonesia. Potensi OCS dalam riset dan pengumpulan biodiversitas Indonesia dapat terwujud apabila tujuan program OCS, metode, standar data, analisis dan pelaporan data yang dihasilkan memiliki standar yang sudah baku sehingga data yang dihasilkan benar-benar valid.
